PRODUCTION: Shadow In The Sun (Drama)
PRODUCTION DATE: October 1969
DIRECTED BY: Elizabeth Batten
STAGED: The Park Centre, Burgess Hill
SYNOPSIS: Pamela Hall, head girl at a girls' school in South Africa, falls from favour when it is discovered that her grandfather was coloured. Expulsions and libel follow as racist opinions get out of control.
PLAYWRIGHT: Maurice McLoughlin wrote this play in 1963. Not a lot of information could be found about his life or work, but other plays of his include 'Letter From The General' (1961), 'Brush With A Body' (1962) and an adaptation of Frank Richard's 'Billy Bunters Christmas Circus' (1962).
BHTC NOTES: Sheila Wells (playing the role of Caroline Haley), remembers that the cast rehearsed the play in the director's garage and they all had great fun trying to get realistic South African accents for their parts!
