PRODUCTION: Fumed Oak (Comedy) PRODUCTION DATE: 1975 DIRECTED BY: Sheila Wells STAGED: The Park Centre, Burgess Hill SYNOPSIS: Henry Gow has apparently accepted his unattractive family, until one evening when he returns with new courage and announces his plan for escape. He vows never to see them again and leaves, gleefully slamming the door in their faces ... PLAYWRIGHT: Noel Coward (December 16, 1899 – March 26, 1973) Labelled as an 'Unpleasant Comedy in Two Scenes', Fumed Oak is from Noel Coward's 'Tonight at 8-30' series of plays. BHTC NOTES: This production doubled with 'Trouble On Helicon' as an evening of one act plays. In Nancy Forsike's scrapbook (from where these images were taken), she mentions that 'Fumed Oak' was produced by the more established club members, whilst 'Trouble On Helicon' was produced to promote the clubs new youth drama section. Unfortunately from the information currently available, it is not possible to know how many performances were produced.
