SYNOPSIS: Brothers Joseph and Charles Surface both want to marry the lovely Maria who is in the care of Sir Peter Teazle. However Lady Sneerwell, a malicious gossip and founder of The School for Scandal, is jealous and spreads false rumours about an affair between Charles and Lady Teazle. The brothers also have a rich uncle, Sir Oliver, whom they have not seen in sixteen years. He visits them both incognito before deciding which of them shall inherit his fortune.

BHTC NOTES: The costume sketches done by Nancy Forsdike (featured below), formed part of an arts festival held at the Park Centre. It successfully promoted a lot of interest before the production.
