A story of love, romance, honour, a fair few misunderstandings and wonderful costumes comes to The Martlets in July when the Burgess Hill Theatre Club presents the stage adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. The club promises an evening of feisty young ladies, of fluttering hearts and of course a quite wonderful Mr Darcy to set the audiences hearts a racing.

Set in the Georgian era this period drama tells the tale of a mother desperately trying to find wealthy husbands for her three beautiful daughters. However each daughter will see love turn and turn about before finally all is resolved in this wonderfully plot based on Jane Austens’ novel. The Burgess Hill Theatre Club production will take this story of love and honour and carry the audience from the Bennet’s house in Meryton following the story of the daughters to London and to Rosings Park in Kent to the home of Lady Catherine de Bourgh and all the while the life of the young Elizabeth Bennet will become entwined with that of the handsom Mr Darcy.

This is the first major production on The Martlets stage for a good few years for the club, aside from its ever popular Pantomime, and has been a major club effort. Pippa Jones, Drama Advisor for the club and co-director, said “I am so proud of the club and the way it has pulled together to deliver this show!  So many people from every department from costumes to set design, front of house and backstage have been so amazing in giving their time and talent. The amount of fun and goodwill that is within the club at the moment is a credit to its members.”

So come along and enjoy the show and escape back in time for a wonderful evening of romance and passion with more twists of fate than EastEnders! We promise a thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable evening of light hearted humour and one or two lessons in good manners. It would be a travesty to miss this experience.

Box Office opens 5th June at the club’s Theatre in Church Walk, by the Town Council Help Point, and is open every Saturday and Wednesday from 10am to 1pm. Tickets can be ordered for collection at the Box Office by ringing 01444 242984 at any other time.
